Stump’s Upholstery Design was born through the purchase of the Leola, PA business by Robert and Connie Kunkle from Earl Stump of Stump’s Furniture Store - Brownstown, PA in 1965. Maintaining the Stump’s name, the Kunkle’s continued to make the business their own. Robert and Connie Kunkle quickly incorporated their family into the business by training their children Robin Moberly (Kunkle), Robert Jr (Lee) Kunkle, and Kevin Servance (Kunkle) to take the reigns from a young age. Their eldest child Bonnie Hoover (Kunkle) went on a different path becoming a French teacher and librarian, but stopped in to assist with the business when she could. The business has been at our current location on West Main Street in Leola, PA since 1965.
Robert and Connie retired and are now living happily in New Holland, PA. Their children have continued the successful business with Kevin as the Vice President and Office Manager specializing in sales, design, and customer service; Robin as the President and Project Manager specializing in residential and commercial furniture upholstery; and Lee as the Treasurer and one man show of our Auto & Boat department.
The third generation has stepped into the business as well. Kevin’s son, Nikolas (Nik) Kunkle, has been with the business since he was 16 years old and is now our main Upholsterer. Kevin’s daughter, Olivia Fisher (Kunkle), went out into the workforce gaining several years of experience in retail management as well as human resources and payroll. This experience has given her great tools to bring back to the business and she is now working with her dad as our Director of Business Operations. Recently Olivia received a diploma in Interior Decorating and she assists clients with design choices as well as doing our commercial project estimating.
As a family business, we are blessed to be joined by our “bonus family” of coworkers. Our team includes: Danielle (Dani) Blanchette as Seamstress & Upholstery Assistant, Kate Brown as Seamstress & Upholstery Assistant, Brandon Fisher (Olivia's husband) as Upholstery Apprentice, and Steven Stensgard as Upholstery Assistant.
